Creating lasting works of architecture with a meticulous attention to detail and strong connection to place.

WHO WE ARE

Field Report is a bicoastal architecture studio focused on custom modern homes, hospitality environments, wineries, creative offices, and adaptive reuse projects across the United States.

The studio’s work emphasizes clear architectural ideas, durable materials, and thoughtful detailing that responds directly to climate, landscape, and context. Field Report provides full architectural services from early concept and feasibility through permitting, construction documentation, and construction administration.

Working throughout the Pacific Northwest, the San Juan Islands, New England, and beyond, the studio frequently navigates complex sites, historic structures, and remote construction conditions. This requires a highly hands-on approach and close collaboration with builders and fabricators.

OUR STUDIOS

SEATTLE & THE SAN JUAN ISLANDS:

Field Report’s primary studio is located in Seattle. The firm also maintains a satellite workspace in Anacortes, supporting projects throughout the San Juan Islands and the broader Pacific Northwest. Many of our projects in this region involve waterfront properties, remote construction sites, and sensitive natural landscapes.

NEW ENGLAND:

Field Report maintains an active presence in New England, led by co-founder Joe Tracy, who grew up in the region and brings a deep familiarity with its building traditions, climate, and craft culture. We work with residential and hospitality clients throughout Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and beyond - delivering the same level of design rigor and hands-on collaboration that defines our work on the West Coast.

HOW WE OPERATE

Running studios on opposite coasts is straightforward. Running projects in places without direct road access, reliable contractor pools, or forgiving permit timelines requires a different kind of operational discipline.

We've built our process around the reality that most of our best projects happen somewhere inconvenient - a ferry ride away, deep in wine country, or on a coastline that a county planning department treats as sacred ground. That context shapes everything about how we work:

Documentation that leaves nothing to interpretation. A missing dimension or an ambiguous detail costs three times as much to resolve when the nearest lumberyard is on the mainland. Our construction sets are thorough by design - not because we enjoy paperwork, but because we've seen what happens when builders are left to improvise on a remote site.

Local partnerships, not local workarounds. We bring the design rigor. Local engineers, surveyors, and contractors bring the knowledge of what actually gets built in a given place - how a county reviewer thinks, where materials actually come from, which details hold up in a salt-air environment. We take those relationships seriously.

On-site when it counts. We're not trying to manage construction from a screen. We're on-site for framing, system rough-ins, and finish details - the moments where a judgment call in person is worth more than ten email threads. Between those visits, we keep our builders moving with clear documentation and structured check-ins.

The goal is a process that performs the same way whether the project is in Newport or Orcas Island. Mostly it does.
