BRENTWOOD RESIDENCE
A modern custom home in Los Angeles' Brentwood neighborhood, designed for a young family of four who wanted a home rich in natural materials, flooded with light, and deeply connected to its mature landscaping. The design navigates an irregular lot and local zoning requirements to create a flexible, open plan that moves easily between indoor and outdoor living.
The irregular lot and local zoning constraints shaped a plan that opens as generously as possible toward the surrounding landscape. Natural materials are central to the home's character - 18-inch-wide old-growth European oak floors and natural stone walls bring a warmth and substance that the clients prioritized from the start. A full-height operable glass wall on the main living level connects the living room directly to the backyard, dissolving the line between inside and out.
The social floor is organized around a well-appointed chef's kitchen, butler's pantry, and formal dining room, with additional guest accommodation tucked alongside. Upstairs, the primary suite occupies nearly half the level, with two spacious walk-in closets and a generous bathroom that opens onto a private balcony overlooking the backyard. Two additional bedrooms on the opposite side of the floor each have their own private bathroom and share a west-facing balcony.
The result is a home that balances openness and privacy at every level - a quiet, livable piece of Los Angeles modernism built around the way a young family actually lives.
