LAKE FOREST PARK RESIDENCE

A custom residential architecture project in Lake Forest Park, WA, this home was designed as a homecoming - a return for a client reconnecting with their childhood neighborhood north of Seattle. The design balances Scandinavian restraint with the realities of a constrained urban site, creating a calm, light-filled home for a growing family while maintaining a strong relationship to the surrounding landscape.

Because the program's functional requirements neared the limits of the allowable buildable area, our approach focused on the building's section rather than its footprint. By depressing the southwest corner of the massing, we maintained a low, contextually sensitive roofline that honors the neighborhood's scale while optimizing the home's solar exposure.

The interior experience is defined by the strategic movement of light. A series of skylights and a central catwalk-style hallway pull daylight deep into the floor plate, allowing it to filter from the primary suite down into the kitchen below. This layered transparency reinforces the connection between levels, making the home feel open and expansive despite its modest footprint. The material palette — rooted in natural textures and restrained detailing — echoes the principles of contemporary Scandinavian design, keeping the home warm and tactile throughout the seasons.

From the orientation of the windows to the flow of the communal spaces, every move was designed to support the rhythms of modern family life while establishing a timeless presence in Lake Forest Park.
