LAKE FOREST PARK RESIDENCE

One of our clients grows up in the Lake Forest Park neighborhood, bringing a deep connection to the site and surrounding community. From the outset of design, we realize that the amount of program required for the family’s daily life quickly filled the buildable area of the lot, pushing the design to evolve vertically rather than horizontally. This lead us to explore the building in section—focusing on how light, volume, and movement shape a home that feels both spacious and grounded within its modest footprint. Massing strategies such as depressing the southwest corner of the building allow daylight to reach the primary suite and filter down into the kitchen through carefully placed skylights. These sectional moves maintain a low, contextually sensitive roofline while ensuring that natural light penetrates deep into the core of the house. Additional skylights at the upper level, combined with a catwalk-style hallway featuring openings to the lower floor, create a layered play of light that animates the home throughout the day and reinforces its sense of openness and connection across levels.
