WALLA WALLA WINERY
An industrial winery and collaborative production facility in Walla Walla, WA, this adaptive reuse project transforms a 24,000-square-foot building just outside the historic downtown into a shared home for multiple boutique winemakers. The design departs from the traditional chateau archetype, leaning into the building's industrial character as an honest expression of what happens inside.
At its core, the project is organized around collaboration - accommodating the concurrent production needs of multiple boutique partner producers, from barrel storage and blending to tastings, all within a single structure. Rather than concealing the winemaking process, the design puts it on display. Exposed structure, raw materials, and an open layout invite visitors into the work itself, making the production floor as much a part of the guest experience as the tasting room.
The original building's unadorned exterior is activated by a large outdoor tasting and events deck, added directly off the tank room. This extension serves as the project's social threshold - a welcoming point of arrival that blurs the line between production and hospitality. For visitors, the result is a winery experience that feels honest, tactile, and rooted in the craft - a welcome departure from the polished formality of more traditional Walla Walla venues.
This project is part of a body of work we've developed in Walla Walla - more on our approach to architecture in Walla Walla.
